For me, making
mosaics is a passion, and an outlet. Although
I did study art in college, I've never had
a formal class in mosaics. Everything about
mosaics has been self taught, or shared
knowledge from fellow mosaic artisans.
Pretty much anything I can get my hands
on that sparks an idea, is not safe from
being used or made into art. That is the
great thing about mosaics, there are no
rules!
I'm an Orthodox Jew, married to a wonderful
man, caregiver to my father who has Parkinson's
disease, sister, step-mom to two among other
things. Baruch Hashem, I am blessed.
A percentage of each sale I make goes to
poor and needy Jews, through Kupat
Ha'ir. Kupat Ha’ir is the largest
volunteer based charity fund supported by
Jews worldwide. Kupat Ha'ir is the lifeline
for thousands of needy. With offices in
Israel, the U.S., Canada and throughout
Europe.
Many mosaic artists participate in group
projects for various charities or non-profit
organizations. Recently, I participated
in an installation of the Butterfly
Project, at the Calusa
Nature Center. One of my "Perfect" scales was donated to the silent auction of the Eating Disorder Coalition of Iowa. This will help raise awareness, training and treatment for all people with eating disorders.
Also in my "spare" time I am
a glass boards moderator on an amazing crafting/art
site: Craftster
A Community for crafts and DIY projects,
with free craft Ideas, inspiration, advice
and more. It is such a great online resource
and community.
